About the Free Meditation Timer

This is a meditation timer that tries to do one thing well and then get out of your way. It runs entirely in your browser, so there is nothing to download and no account to create. You open the page, choose how long you want to sit, and press start. That is the whole experience, and it is meant to be.

Why it exists

Most meditation apps treat a simple timer as bait. They ask for your email before you can sit down, hide the start button behind a free trial, and send notifications to pull you back. A tool meant to help you find stillness should not be the noisiest thing on your phone.

So this timer keeps a simple promise. No signup, no tracking, no ads. It is supported by optional donations and a few affiliate links to meditation gear, which means it never has to sell your attention. The quiet is the point.

The bells

There are six bell sounds to choose from, each with its own character. The Tibetan Bowl is warm and rounded with a long tail. The Zen Bell is clean and bright, the kind of single strike used to open and close a sitting. The Temple Gong is deep and resonant, while the Crystal Bowl rings clear and high. The Mindfulness Bell is gentle and grounding, and the Soft Chime is the lightest of them all, a quiet touch for the end of a session.

You can read more about the sounds and where they come from on the meditation bell timer page.

What you can adjust

Set any length from one to sixty minutes using the preset buttons. Add an interval bell if you like a gentle marker along the way, with options for every one, two, three, five, or ten minutes, or no interval at all for an unbroken sit. A volume slider lets you make the bell as soft or as present as you want. When you press start, a short three second warm up gives you a moment to settle before the first bell sounds.

Some sessions also offer calming background music. If you prefer a little ambient sound under your practice, the music timers are a good place to begin, such as a 10 minute meditation timer or a 15 minute meditation timer as a starting point.

Keyboard shortcuts

If you like to keep your hands off the screen, a few keys do everything. Press the space bar to start or pause, press R to reset, and press F to enter fullscreen. Fullscreen shows the time in a large, soft display that reads clearly from across a room, which makes the timer easy to use for a yoga class or a group sit.

On supported browsers the screen also stays awake while you meditate, using the Wake Lock API, so the page will not dim or sleep mid session. You can simply set it down and breathe.

Your privacy

Everything personal stays on your device. Your preferred duration, your chosen bell, your session history, and your daily streak are all saved in your browser using localStorage. None of it is sent to a server, and you can clear it at any time. There is no profile of you anywhere, because there is no place that could hold one.

Frequently asked questions

Is the meditation timer really free?

Yes, completely free with no premium tier. Every bell, the interval chimes, and the background music options are all included. There is no account to create and nothing to unlock.

Do you track me or show ads?

No. There are no ads and no personal tracking. Your preferred length and bell are saved privately in your browser using localStorage, and they never leave your device.

What keyboard shortcuts does it have?

Press the space bar to start or pause, press R to reset, and press F for fullscreen. Fullscreen mode shows a large, calm display that is readable from across a room.

Will the screen stay on during a session?

On supported browsers the timer uses the Wake Lock API to keep the screen awake while you sit, so you do not have to touch your device. If your device hides the page, the timer keeps accurate time and catches up the moment you return.
